Hi ya'll.
I have a new XP Pro machine that I'm trying to use file/print sharing with an existing XP Home box. I've checked the user rights with secpol.msc on the Professional machine and made sure the RestrictAnonymous registry setting was set to 0 on both machines. I ran "net user guest /active:yes" on the XP Pro machine and created a fix_lan.cmd file I ran on the XP Home machine (found instructions in another thread) fix_lan.cmd created with notepad:
"net user guest /active:yes
ntrights +r SeNetworkLogonRight -u Guest
ntrights -r SeDenyNetworkLogonRight -u Guest"

Here is where I stand now. When I go to My Network Places on the Professional machine, I can delve down and can see my Workgroup name and when I click on it I get the message:
"Workgroup is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available."

When I go to My Network Places on the XP Home machine I can see my Workgroup name and I can expand it and see both computers. I can click on the XP Home machine and see all it's share names but when I click on the XP Pro machine I get the message:
"\\computer-name is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path was not found."

Can someone please give me some advice or point me in the right direction on what I can do to get the 2 machines sharing with each other? I plugged my son's old XP pro box into our router and it file shared just fine and we had no problems. Thank you for your help.

These are pretty good links to help out with setting up file sharing. You will probably want to stick with the first link as you can't disable Simple File Sharing in XP Home.

- XP Simple File Sharing

- XP Pro File Sharing

- Adding Windows XP to an Existing Network
