We are in the process of putting an Aloha POS system together for a pizza restaurant. We have everything except for the server. Can someone please give us a suggestion on what type of server to look for? Used or New? Manufacturer? Model? Our dealer recommended to purchase a server directly from them, but it's almost $1500 and claims that their server will be the most efficient for the system (I think it's made by Radiant). Thanks a ton!

Unfortuantly they are correct. You can purchase your own server but the setup time involved could cost you more in the long run. Most systems you purchase (unless costom built) come with W7-64 HOME.
You will need to add an extra NIC and a serial port.

If you purchased a server from Radiant/NCR it usually has a 3 year warranty with it and next day replacement.

Cheers,
Coorsman

I always advise clients to negotiate the best deal they can but always buy the BOH server from the company that will be responsible for fixing it when it breaks. You are attempting to put the company (who you will call at 10PM on a Friday night) in a position whereby they don't have parts for your own sourced PC. It's penny wise...pound foolish IMHO. Newegg doesn't offer "on demand" onsite service.

Coorsman and TobeThor are correct, if that server breaks, you'll end up spending upwards of $1000 to your reseller just to get you back up and running if you purchase the server on your own. Yes, the computers from your dealer are grossly overpriced, but at least they should cover any hardware issues that may arise. Your reseller should be able to cut you a deal on the setup of Aloha if the hardware is from them too.
