File Server backup

Some times my file server backup fails, giving no reasoning and no database log. The other two jobs that run, complete successfully. Any ideas?

No idea, but it would help to know the version and OS.
What is the history?
What is the consistancy?
Put the Job Engine in debug.

Lol sorry all, it's arcserve 2k sp4 (Build 1100).. twice a month on two - to three tape servers.

Oh, that's tough when it is so infrequint.

Well I still say leave the Job Engine in debug mode.

Check back on the history for any consistancy. For example is it only on weekly jobs, only on local jobs, or only to a specific client, or maybe it only happens on the fist job to kick off, or maybe when this particular jobs starts first.

If there is absolutely no consistancy to it, then check for other processes that might be running at the time.

Oh, yes and check to see if the tape is actually formated. If the tape is not formated with the name shown in the log then it might be a tape or Tape Engine issue.
