I have a file that is supposedly locked by me and my users are unable to access it.

I have never used this file so this is a mystery. How do I view who has this file open and how do I clear the connection.

In windows NT you used to be able to run winfile and the properties of the file allowed you to see who had the file open and you were then able to clear the lock.

Any utility recommendations

Cheers

Have you done this already..

Right click "My Computer"/Manage/double click "Shared Folders"/double click "Open Files".

Thanks that works well and proves I am not locking the file. Is there a way to view who is locking the file, that seems to show if I am locking a file.

Thanks for your help though

Any file on a windows 2000 network really.

The problem file is a word doc on one of our network drives. In WinNT I would have opened winfile on the server clicked properties and locked by who and a list would appear with the id of the users using the file. You could then drill down and delete the them one by one. In Windows 2000 you dont seem to have that control, is there a utility that allows you to interegate files for locking and details of who is using the file at that time.

Cheers

Rt. Click "My Computer"->Manage->Shared Folders->Open Files

I beleive this is what you are looking for.

is it possible you are left logged on somewhere else?

I seem to have fixed the problem. I rebooted my machine at lunchtime and the file is now accessable. The thing that has confused me is I have never accessed this file before in my life. Its very wierd!
