Hi all,

I have an excel file on my NT 4.0 server that for some reason has become "locked for editing". Anytime I try to open it is says this, and then will only allow you to open in "Read only".

The user it is saying has it locked does not have the file open? I have tried to kill all old connections through server manager, but nothing seems to be working.

Has anyone seen this before? Is there a way to unlock the file?

TIA for any help... mot98

Try to take ownership of the file...if that doesn't work, try rebooting the server..if you can. Also, I've had some luck renaming a file, rebooting the server, and then renaming the file back. I've seen this a lot with files on NT servers that don't get "bounced" every so often.
