file gone after modify

After calling up a file to modify. I attempted to save my changes and got a message that file did not exist. My modifications and file where then gone. I have had same thing happen occasionally while attempting to save a form. Anyone know whats up with this?

I have had this problem a few years ago, and my only solution was to reformat the drive and reinstall VFP. I had tried reintalling VFP only and the problem remained. I believe the prblem was related to a bad sector on the hard-disk. Mike Gagnon

If my files where located on my local drive I could understand that solution. The database exist on a network drive and this has happened on an earlier PC.

Sounds like a bad network situation, the problem is most likely not related to VFP. Mike Gagnon

could be, we are fairly new to Novell 6.0 Just wanted to see if anyone had a similar problem.

Lena,
Make sure your Novell client settings have been changed from the defaults - they aren't best for database applications. Minimally, make sure File Caching is OFF and File Commit is ON. (Note: These properties may be named different based on the Client version in use. These are for the NT / 2000 / XP 4.83 version.)

I have also had issues with losing form changes when my machine was set up for DHCP on a TCP/IP network. After setting a static ip address and the other routing addresses (subnet, gateway etc.), I haven't lost any more work.
