file existance notification

I am running a Reflections script in Win2000 Pro and this process quits when it hits some errors. I need to notifiy the user that the process has quit by some means. I have thought of creating a file "error.txt" for example when this occurs. Is there anyway I could send some kind of notification of this files existence??? Outlook would be open at the time or is there any thing else I could do.
