If I try to open a Word document from outside of word (e.g. by double clicking on an email attachment or a file in Explorer or Powerdesk) Word opens but the file does not. I am left with the Usual Word menubars but a blank grey screen where the document should be. How do I fix this? Thanks

If you go to Tools, Folder Options in Windows Explorer; then go to File Types and find DOC and Click on Advanced, select Open and click Edit, chances are the DDE Message does not read
[FileOpen("%1")]
wich it should. "A married man should forget all his mistakes. There is no point in two people remembering the same thing."

This recently happened to me. The only difference was that it was a problem when launching an Excel document. We are utilizing Lotus Notes r5 for email and Office 97. The solution was to reload Office 97.

One thing that you might check first is to open Windows Explorer and navigate <View><Options> and select the file type tab. Review the settings and make any adjustments that you may fine incorrect.

Thanks - took the advice and now everything is fine!
