I work for a school.

Most staff are reporting spam mail on a daily basis - one as many as 20 spam mails per day. The ideal solution would be to separate mail from known sources (in address books) from unknown sources.

Sorry, there's not much time to write - we're in exam time.

Any help appreciated.

We've been getting alot of the same. The only thing we do at the moment is add domains to the block list. There's not much in the way of software add-ons for blocking the spam, from what we've been able to research.

There are subscription services that you can join that will help reduce the amount of spam, but we aren't subscribed to any ourselves.

You might check into a 3rd party product called GWAVA. It has virus checking capability as well as some spam blocking features.

I set up a Rule to filter the most common subject lines and move them to a folder where I can later check them and delete the real Spam. Just watch the Spam and find the Key Word/s in the subject and add them to the rule using something like 'subject =to Viagra and subject =to Mortgage and subject =to credit card and subject =to ETC.' This has to be done for each user (a pain) but it is also free. It usually catches 80% to 90% of the Spam and only occaisionally a real E-mail, thats why I don't Auto Delete everything right away. It should also be the first rule that gets processed before anything else.
