Hi there,

I have a document that contains, I guess microsof equation...
it look like {EQ \F(3,4)}

this should give 3/4 when you hit ALT+F9 or when you check the field code view. But on my side, I get Error! message .

one of my friend got it right thought and we can't find what he has that I don't

any clues
thanks
Yannick

Hi Yannik,

Works for me, both when typed in or created via insert|field.

Cheers

Me too. Are you absolutely positive the string in the field code is correct? It has to a syntax error. Are you saying that the SAME document works differently? That is vis-a-vis the fact that it seems to works for one person, but not another. Or, is it the same ACTION (inserting the EQ field) done on different documents? If it is the latter, then the one that does not work have a syntax error.

Actually, I got to answer my own problem... but for fumei, here is the issue.

Depending on where you live on this magnificent planet, you may are using the "." or the "," for numbering as in 3.1415 or 3,1415

In your system preference (control panel) you can change this parameter...

Microsoft Equation use a ";" to separate parameters of an EQ if the coma "," is use for numbering...

It is just a mater of adjusting the system...

Is this of any help, if yes can I get my first star ever on this forum!!!

thanks

duponty - please do not ask for stars - doing so breaks site rules

Very true. System format does have its effect. However, it is a point that constantly comes up, is constantly discovered (remembered), and is constantly banged up against as problems get narrowed down. Ideally, when people post things they should always state their system preferences. Especially as so many members here use European format - OR - so many members here use American format.

In of itself, it is not worth a star. Glad you found out what made it work for you. Thank you for posting what DID work. It is good to do so, as it makes it much better than a dangling post.
