Just a simple question really. What is the function of ffpsrv.exe? Can I safely kill the process, or is it a necessary part of MS System?

Not ftpsrv.exe? ffpsrv.exe is a mystery to me.

I cannot find reference in any system file to this, or the registry.

Google was blank on it as well.

GDay,

Try to locate the file ffpsrv.exe using Windows Explorer. Do a search if necessary, and then right click on the file and choose 'properties'.

Click on the version tab, this should show a list of properties. Look for the manufacturers name, this should give you an idea of what program the file belongs to.

If the manufacturer is known to you, then you can decide what to do with the file process.

This is not a foolproof method but it can be handy in identifying unknown processes.

Another method is to use the 'System Information' utility (Menu: Start/All Programs/Accesories/System Tools/System Information).

Hope this helps :)

Hi again Bcastner
Have already looked in Google too, same result. Looked at file properties, no comments or entries in any of the fields. Tried MS Knowledge, no luck there either.
It seems to have all the trappings of a web client, but Zone Alarm doesn't report anything, and Norton's AV passes it too.
I thought it may have been one of those secret apps of MS's?
I know about ftpsrv.exe, that's what struck me about this entry in task manager.
Could it be a companion helper for flashget?

I have no idea. It does not appear in Pac's Portal or other listings of malware startup or process program sites.

Ignore it.
