I have been changing all the day the partitiond and deleting ones without formating any well I am sure that the data is there but I dont see it I know that fdisk does not show the NTFS but what can I do to get my system working without losing 8 GB data???

The win98 boot disk will see the NTFS partition if you enable treat NTFS drive as a large drive. It is an option asked for when you fdisk. Did you delete the partition then recreate it? It is a little difficult to under stand what you did. James Collins

ok here it is!
1. I installed a new hard disk
from that time I didn´t see the light!!

B4 I had a C: and a E:
the win 2k couldn´t start because the ntoskrnl is missing or damaged re-install or copy the file...
I had two instalation of win 2k one is working and the other is not I could open the c: but not the E: because it changed to D: and it says that disk is not formated.
it did scare me when the fdisk says that to enable you could not open it with other sys etc...
What should I do
I am trying to re-partition the disk as in the use to be with same fdisk programme
what do you think?

It sounds like drive E/D is hosed. Is there info you need? If not then I suggest deleteing all partitions and then let win2k recreate 1 new one. James Collins

I've been having a similar problem.

I had 2 HD's installed, the primary one had win98 in the first partition and the slave had win2k in the primary partition. For some reason (mabe age) the primary drive started haveing trouble and I found a few bad sectors. The only way I could get into win98 was to bott in safe mode.

I could get into win2k ok so thought I would take out the master drive (win98) and swap it with the slave (win2k) but when I tried to load win2k it just wasn't happening.

On the new master I have 3 partitions other than win2k and all the data on these partitions needed to be saved/secure. The other problem I had was that I never had a. Win2k startup/recovery disks or b. an original Win2k CD Rom (with me) This is what worked for me.

- Changed the bootup sequence to boot from my CD Rom with Win98
- Selected to boot from CD
- Booted with CD support
- Ran "FDISK" and deleted the primary partition with win2k
- Made that the active DOS partition and rebooted
- Started again and went back to the CD to run "Format C:\"
- After formatting the C: I ran win98 setup

That's as far as I've got as I'm still sorting it as I type. This is the first time with this problem but I figure that as soon as the win98 setup is complete I will be able to do a fresh install of win2k over the win98 files and every thing should be cool.

Here's hoping. Hope this is helps, I'll post the final results when it's done (but will it ever end?)

Tezdread :-)
