Hello all,
My visits to tek-tips seem to come in waves...
6 months nothing...then daily :)

I just went thru the FCloop firmware upgrade so everything is in place for the expansion backplane party over the weekend.
but, right after finishing the firmware upload, while still being connected in tip & single mode I all-of-a-sudden got this message which made me almost fell of my chair:

Dec 3 00:12:57 backbase qlc: [ID 686697 kern.info] NOTICE: Qlogic qlc(0): Loop OFFLINE

This server is been running production for the last 20 months or so with very long uptimes but I've never had this error pop up, so I am thinking it must be with the loop offline-online cycling no ?
Am I right assuming this ?

Thanks!
Iga

welcome to the club! ;-)

I recommend to check the disks first; what have you connected to this FC loop? Are there A5x00 Storages? Are all Disks from "minimum configuration" available and online?

Check the GBICs if the errors are from different disks.

Install Storage ADE Software from Sun (free), this SW will check the Installation and Messages and will mail Problems to you.

no, only 6 internal disks in the standard backplane.
Over the weekend another 6 go in with the expansion backplane, all sitting on the local loopA, no extra loop is foreseen at this moment.

Will check out ADE from sun.

this morning everything seemed ok.
Right after the firmware upgrade I brought it back into production and everything is heavily used again with no errors popping up in messagelog. happy happy.

You might need to upgrade the firmware on your hard disk as well, the issue might come back later.

Check the installation note, make sure the firmware on the HDD is matched the requirement.

Cheers,

Achech

Hi Mefla,

the powerd is running apparently, but I never seen those messages again when the machine went back into production the day after the upgrade.
uptime is now 12 days without any error popping up the messagelog.
