Fax machine and modem

I need to understand
When connecting modem to fax machine and while in dialing up connection can i recieve and send faxes
IF there's a way how? through modem or fax machine

well if you use the phone line,how can you still recieve faxes? using the modem is the same as using the fax,is the same as using the standard phone line. Only one device can use the phone line at a time. Now there is a box that you can connect that allows you to suspend the modem call and use the fax without logging off the internet. But you need a newer style modem.v.92 i think.
