I'm able to delete incoming faxes in the Windows Fax console logged in as the System Manager but not as a standard user in the Users group. The 'Delete' option is currently greyed out in the right-click menu for the standard user.

Does anyone know what security option I may be able to change to give a standard user the option to delete these?

This is on a WinXP Pro SP2 standalone machine.

Thanks!

Do you have this or similar location where you can change Permissions?

%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows NT\MSFax\Inbox

Is there a User Group called "Fax" that you can add the user to?

Hi. Thanks for the post. I do have that location but I currently have the faxes going to another folder called 'Incoming Faxes'. It was a good thought though. So I took the 'Incoming Faxes' folder and moved it to the Shared Documents folder. I made sure it wasn't marked Read-Only.

I am able to open that folder as the Standard User and delete the fax file itself, but I still can't get the option to appear in the fax console itself.

Not able to locate any Fax user group either...

Hmmmmm...any other suggestions?

I suppose in XP you may have to create the "Fax" Group if it is not created, but that is not really relevant to your problem.

You could try removing the Faxing component and installing it again.

If you knew the .exe responsible for Faxing (the Service is FXSSVC.exe but I don't know if there is any other .exes involved) you could look at this program.

Have a look at Greg PALMER's free program, see if you can make use of that?

How to enable and configure the Fax service in Windows XP

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.

How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade (Reinstallation) of Windows XP (Q315341)

I threw the Standard User in the Admin group to see what would happen and this did fix the problem. So it seems there is just a setting somewhere that needs to be changed.

I think you must have an old think for Greg Palmer's program so here is the new link for anyone that might look at this in the future.

I will give this a try. Thanks for the info.

I don't think this is important enough an issue for me to spend time repairing Windows or anything like that. I'll see where the RunAsUser program gets me and just give up if no one else has any other ideas.

Thanks for your posts linney!

Just had to say that the program you referred me to worked like a charm. Thanks for the help!
