hi

i want to backup faxes.

the unit is avaya412, 3.2.55
i use SO8 for faxes.

incoming call route routes the did number to the VM:Fax
vm fax transfer the call to the faxs shortcode,
and faxshortcode dial the SO8 line,

for example
incoming call route
3374440 VM:Fax

in VM

Fax module transfer the shortcode number 813434

in shortcodes

813434 . dial line801

and the fax goes to fax(SO8) line.

i created a hunt group with the name of Fax, and if WM that this backup works, but if fax machine death , the backup process cant work,

i tried with lcr but cannot success,
i am looking for a solution, when fax machine cant work,
an analog fax extension can backup fax line,
is it possible,
thanks,

serhan from cablenet

hi, please help me in this problem.

thanks.

It is Sunday in the rest of the world, post your question tommorrow.
Beside that, why sending the faxes to the VM first?

Create a shortcode like this :
SC = 3374440
TN = .
Line ID = s0 incoming line ID

Incoming call route:

DDI = 3374440
Destination = 3374440
FallBack extension = analog fax

If the destination fails to answer then the call goes to the alog fax.

Oh i forgot, a BMW motorcycle is much more reliable....;)

ICR fallback is the way to go.

if you did want to use the VM to say have multiple points of failover you could set chain together assisted transfers that would each try a different analog fax destination.

you would link from the busy on one to the start of the next assisted transfer. and then maybe end with a HOME connector to start the sequence over again.

Gibsonic,
It sounds like your solution could possibly create what I call voicemail jail. That is a situation that could possibly end up with an endless loop stuck in VM. Possibly locking up lines, and VM resources bogging down, or locking up the VM. I would always lead a call flow to a thank you for calling good bye eventually if not to a blind transfer.

right, definitely possible aarenot for the vm jail scenario, but like in a previous job we had so many physical fax machines that by the time it came back around to beginning generally one of the first few machines would be freed up.

this would tie up a VM Pro channel for a while and call timeout timers could cause the far end calling fax machine to give up.

Phone manager, call status, and call steal function properly installed and trained can let the customer free up the call in VM jail if that happens as well. Might want to show an onsite person the way to steal a call if you do it this way.
Another option occurs to me that may help in this type situation. Set up a hunt group/linear for each fax machine with all the back up fax machines in the group in the order of desired back up. Set up ICR to go to the HG rather than the fax machine. Set fax for immediate answer, and HG timers/CW as needed.
