Having an ongoing problem with a particular fatal exception error 0D @ 034F: 00009D3E with accompanying blue screen when attempting to shutdown Windows 98. Clicking on "any key" as directed yields a black screen with a little bar of colored graphic patterns accross the top from which you cannot escape. Subsequently, this requires a power off reboot and an automatic scandisk run in order to restore functionality.

Disabling fast shutdown has had no effect. The Windows system sound file for shutdown has always been disabled. I seem to relate this problem to a recent upgrade to i.e. 6 bundled with Outlook Express 5.5. I seem to notice that the problem generally doesn't occur unless I use email (we have active Charter Pipeline, Juno and AOL accounts on our computer) or go online, which is generally every session, but I haven't really definitively researched this yet. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you.

Ouch! I'm sorry, I have Outlook Express 6 not 5.5 as I stated in my original post.
