I picked up a RAD to use on an 824 system and have a few ???'s

First what EXACTLY do I have ? it's a model NT8880. (is it RAD or fastRAD )

what's the diff between models as far as features / etc

finally, what are the ports for ?

There's a DB-25 (goes to PC com port)
there's an RJ-11 on TOP next to DB-25 ??

there's an RJ-11 on the BACK of the unit it says 24V so I *assume* that's the power jack... what pins do I use ? (middle ?) or is that jack power AND connection to KSU ?

the TOP RJ-11 has the telephone poles with wires between them (like a CO indicator)..

thanks all

anyone got a manual on this thing ?

I dont think you gave a complete NT code

NT8B80AAAB = Fast RAD

NT8B80AA = Might be the older model.

DB - 9 (not 25) is to link up to a PC or laptop to communicate with the remote software.

RJ11 is to hook up to the KSU via a digital port.
There should only be one RJ11 on a RAD that I know of.

Every fastrad I've seen actually has "fastrad" printed on the front, not "rad".

I guess it's an oldie :) although it LOOKS brand new

Obviously power goes in the back port, but I'm not sure what pins to put it on (and polarity of the pins)..

If I can't find a manual for it I guess I should try to find a newer one ????

That old release RAD connected a digital station to the bottom jack.

The jack with the telephone poles could be connected to a C.O. line for remote access to a direct line. Power (24vdc) was wired to the outer pins of the bottom jack when used this way. Otherwise no power was required as these old RADs got power from the digital station.

This RAD did have a DB25 for direct access.

Access this RAD using F9**, display goes blank, enter RADMIN and you're at the RAD programming menu. You can only use Norstar Manager with this model. NRU is not compatible.

Do your self a big favor and get a Fast RAD.
Or....try and get a manual, a 25 PIN cable to 9 pin and maybe even a USB adaptor and a power supply, some patience and swearing and posting and..

hehe

Okay... I just picked up a FASTrad off fleabay..

sounds like less hassle than getting this thing figured out :)

thanks for the in-flammation guys!

Now... where do I find a manual for a FASTrad ? ??

:) :D
