A new client has had their old Windows NT server replaceed with a new machine with WIndows 2003. SO that they didn't lose that profile settings, the genius there decided to recreate the accounts on the new server and then leave it at that. Unbelievable the network works fairly OK however some attempts at accesses network objects result in a trust relationship failed message. Is there any easy way of recreating the trust relationship between an XP Pro client and a Windows 2003 standard server (PDC). Or should I just changed workstation network properties to Workgroup, then rejoin the domain and rebuild there user profiles?

Hi, I have the same problem right now. Were you able to find a way to recreate the trust relationship between XP clients and Win2K server without losing the clients current profile?

I tried netdom, but it did't work (probably user error thoug). SO what I did was take a note of the required profile folder name. Then change to Workgroup and then rejoined the network. I logged in as the usual user, which creates a new profile. I then logged in a the Administrator and you can do one of two things:

1) Delete the newly created profile folder (after taking a note of it's name). Rename the old profile folder as the new one. Go into Properties -> Security and give full permission to the required user (or Domain Users depending on security requirements). Log out as Administrator and re-log in as required user.

2) Open the new profile folder and delete everything in there (make sure in Folder Options that it shows hidden files). Then copy across the entire contents of the old profile folder. Log out as Administrator and re-log in as required user.

Hope this helps.

I'm back. I had to re-format my computer because I couldn't log after I changed to Workgroup.

I knew I tried to Delete and Renaming the user folders but it won't let me. The error I got was the "folder is mapped". I am going to try it again and see what happens.

Thanks for your time responding to my post. REally appreciated it.
