I have just installed a new server with Windows 2003 server to replace an older 2000 domain controller. Everything went smooth and I was getting pretty excited about this new OS. I moved it in place, put users on it and decided to modify my Group Policy Objects another time. Every time I tried to access them, I get the following error:

"Failed to open the Group Policy Object. You may not have appropriate rights. Details: The parameter is in correct"

This doesn't quite make sense since I am logged on as the domain administrator, and could access the GPOs before.

If someone has any clue on what is going on with this controller, I would appreciate your answer.

Make sure your 2000 domain dc's are serviced packed to SP4. Check on microsoft knowledge base for the GPO tool which checks you GPO against your permissions. Sorry i dont have the link to hand.

Stehazza: Thank you. My DC is Winsows 2003, and I check microsoft knowledge base for this error, but couldn't find any thing helpful. I verified the AD files permissions and they seemed fine. I have no idea why this is happening.

just a shot, but I have a problem like this.
the main drive the system was installed on (most times c drive) but if you have a raid card it could be different.
go to explorer. right click on the c drive and click on properties then go to security and see if authenticated users is in the list if not add it and do not change the rights leave them asis.

hope this helps

d1rage5: I tried this but it didn't change anything.

After that I used the GPedit.log of the WinPolicy.exe (in the Windows Resource Kit Tools). In the log I found this error that might give a clue as to what is going on here:

CGroupPolicyObject::OpenDSGPO: does not start with LADP//

Does this rings a bell to anyone?
