What causes the "Read past end of TSLV record" error? More importantly, can anything be done about it? The error occured on a report in which the only change was the addition of a formula field. (If it can be at all helpful, the formula added can be seen here -> thread149-304415 )

I've been using the report in its original form for 9 months without any problems. The original, unaltered report still runs without a problem.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Mike

The only time I would expect to see a "Read past end of TSLV" error, is where a long string or numerical field was returned - which the formula in the indicated thread wouldn't do on it's own. Are you combining it with another field, and displaying a string longer than 150 chars?

The other option is the report was sent via Email or FTP. When transferring a file either by email or FTP and the system has been configured to send files using text mode, the file may become corrupt.

I don't think I was. It ran fine while I was working on it. It only crashed when I tried to re-open it.

I retraced what I did to the report to see if it would happen again. And it didn't. Maybe it's an anomaly.

Mike

chriss777,
The report hasn't left my hardrive since I created.

If you take the original report that runs, copy it and add the formula to it while on another PC, does it run. Can you add a different formula without getting the error or is it just this one formula? Ken Hamady, On-site Custom Crystal Reports Training & Consulting

I re-added the formula to the original and it ran fine. Re-opened fine, etc. Mike

So now it works. Sounds like the file somehow got corrupted.

I agree with the corrupt theory.
The formula never caused a problem. It only occured when I tried to reopen it.
Luckily it was a duplicate (and simple to reproduce if I had needed to)report.

Thanks to all for your input. Mike

Dear Mike,

This has happened to me on numerous occasions. When I investigated this problem the FAQ at Crystal's site indicated that simply modifying the report too many times could cause this!

I posted information about this and the fix in this thread:

thread149-269718 you find this helpful!

ro,

Many thanks.

I tried to to an "Advanced Search" yesterday, and it didn't bring your thread back. Mike
