What would cause a maintenance plan to fail? I know this is a very general question, but it's all I have to go on. In the history file it simply states that it failed. Thanks

Failed SQL Maint plan

What type of maintenance plan was it?
For backup jobs, being out of disk space can cause failure. I have a recurring error where the job scheduler itself is hanging causing jobs to fail.
If you go to Management-->SQL Server Logs--> Current(date of failure) you can probably find more information about the specific cause of the failure.
