Hi everyone,

First post so please be gentle being a recent IT graduate i know relatively nothing but have been put in charge of the servers and backups at work. The backup has not been working for about 2 months now with constant failures. The server is a Poweredge 4400 the backup software is Veritas backup exec 8.6 the tape drive is a Dell powervault 110t. I have already attempted cleaning the drive and purchased new media, got the latest drivers etc for the tape drive to no success and created a new job with new set for the media. I have tried almost everything ( i think ) here is the latest failue log..... PLEASE HELP ALL SUGGESTIONS APPRECIATED :)

PS the pst file which has been notifed as corrupt has been removed and the backup is spread over 3 dlt tapes.

The failure on the backup was..

File "emails2004_1.pst" in use - Backed up.
WARNING: "\Admin\Colin\emails2004_1.pst" is a corrupt file.
This file cannot verify.
^ ^ ^ ^ ^

This is normal when trying to backup open pst files - either make sure it is closed, or purchase the open file option which will allow the backup of open files.

Thanks for the quick reply Justin,

I have moved the file to the users local machine so that should sort that problem out. I have just one question is that the only thing that would have caused the backup to fail for instance

Directory not found. Can not backup directory \Jobs\LG Test and its subdirectories.
Directory not found. Can not backup directory \Jobs\Ovation Invitation Mailing and its subdirectories.
Directory not found. Can not backup directory \Jobs\Phoenix Feb Letters and its subdirectories.

and if this is a problem ?????? do you have any idea y it is not seeing these directories they exist on the server is it because im attempting to do the backup during the day and the files are open etc...

Thanks again

hey

The "directory not found" error is what is causing the backup to fail.
There is a checkbox option to backup open files, but this probably won't help as the problem is with locating the directory not in backing it up.
Try unselecting the directories in the job, okaying that and then reselecting them. If this doesn't work, you could try adding the servers as user defined servers rather than selecting them through the network type browser.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies, the backup failed for both those reasons the pst file being open and therefore could not be backed up this causes a fail as it does not skip the file instead it reads as a corrupt file, also if the directory names are changed during a back up this means that the directory map that was given to locate the files at the start is going to be wrong; also a fail. Having corrected those 2 problems the backups are going fine again now cheers to all who responded
