failed backup after new media inserted

I have a backup that spans 2 tapes. The second tape is inserted next day after the system has been waiting for several hours. It seems to recognise that a new tape is inserted but reports " unable to recieve data from client" and then fails. Any idea what is happening here? The job is set to wait for new media and is doing so, it only fails after new media is inserted.
Arcserve 2000 with all current patches and updates applied on the server backing up itself and a client server.

The probkem is the Agent connection has timed out. I believe there should be some documentation in the agent user guide on how to set the Agent Timouts...
