Our FTP server is running on FreeBSD. Admin has created an account for me to access that server. What I need to do is to be able to create another user accounts for our customers to access our FTP server and download software upgrades for our products. I am able to successfully log in to the server; however, when I type “su –“ it gives me an error. Why can’t I execute this command? What should I do to be able to switch to “su –“ ?
Thanks

Yes. It doesn't work. Does it have something to do with permissions?

adop,

It could be a group permissions issue. By default, root is a member of the wheel group. I'm pretty sure that only other members of the wheel group can 'su' to become root.

What is the exact error message you get?

You are right. The message is following: "su: you are not in the correct group (wheel) to su root"
What do I need to do (or the admin who created my account) to become a member of this group?
Thanks.
