I have an Intel 865gbgl, XP Pro. I recently tried to switch from a 2.66 800MHZ P4, to a 3.06 533MHZ FSB P4. Windows hangs on boot up.
I have tried to reinstall XP Pro, but I am not able to hit the F8 key to which is "I agree" on the license page. Page Down button works fine on the same screen, also the Esc key, I just can't get F8.
I don't have a floppy drive to try and update the bios.

Also the new processor is recognized in the BIOS, but the F10 does not work. Thanks for the help.

With a Windows XP install I had recently had a very similiar issue. I had to start the install while logged onto XP and do an "In place" installation to get around this. Once I had a fresh copy of XP on, I was able to do a standard install...

In addition to that, have you tried a different keyboard?

I would try to install while logged onto XP, but it will not boot into windows, not even safe mode, it freezes every time.

Does your keyboard have a F-Lock key or a function button...

you may be pressing a shortcut key rather then the F8...

..you may also want to try a standard ps2 keyboard with no frills just as a test...

It was the keyboard. I will try and finish the installation. Thanks

Auger282,

Good catch of the problem. I recently replaced my keyboard and that "F Lock" key is an issue.

Just wanted to add, I also ran into this problem doing a reformat on a clients station last week. She had replaced the keyboard with this logitech crap, and "F-Lock" had me stumped for about 3 hours before I found something on Google related to the non-functioning F8 key. What a hassle.

Yup, I have one of those Logitech keyboards, and the "F Lock" key still gets me sometimes. Nice keyboard though, aside from the "F Lock", What a pain in the ass.

Computers are like a bag of hammers, they won't do a damn thing until you pick it up and SMASH something with it!!
