Hello,
I am running running XP pro, 2.53GHZ FSB, 512MB pc2700, ATI 9700pro, maxtor 160GB ultra 133 7200 HD. Just recently I have experienced difficulty running games on my PC(MOAA to be specific). When I attempt to start the game, the hour glass comes up then goes away, and nothing happens. If I look in the task manager, I can see the exe in the processes, but not the application section. My processor goes to 99-100%. After 5 minutes, I end the process. That isn't the only game that it malfunctions on. I have reinstalled the game, video drivers. I have run virus scans. Other applications don't seem to be affected. Sometimes, the game will eventually start(more than 5 minutes).
I have heard of anti-virus software interrupting games and just wanted some input on that scenario. I recieve updates from PC-Chillen reguarly. Besides that, the only software that has recently been added is Intervideo mp3 xpack for Windows Media Player.
Any suggestions would be great,
Thanks

Have you tried starting your game in another compatibility mode?

Check this article out in Help and Support - Getting older programs to run on Windows XP.

Thanks for your response! I am not sure exactly what you mean by another compatibility mode.
As far as the article, I am running MOHAA version 1.1.
If my problem was only with this one game, I would focus on that game, but the same thing occurs with Jedi Knight II.
Thanks,
mogrey

The box the game came in states that it is compatibly. I am not sure about microsoft's compatibility list.
Both games were working top notch until a few days ago.

For Compatibility Mode help read the Help and Support program article under the heading of "Getting older programs to run on Windows XP". Search for it in the Help and Support program.

307091 - Certain Programs Do Not Work Correctly If You Log On Using a Limited User Account

thanks linney for your response. Both of the games are not much more than a year old. The account I use to log on to my computer has admin rights.
It is almost like the games won't load into memory correctly. Whenever I look at the processes section of the task manager, for both games, the memory usage is 64k. I know those games require more than that. Could I have a virus that inhibits just my game exe's?

Try using System Restore to back to when both games worked. Perhaps there is a problem with "Intervideo mp3 xpack for Windows Media Player". System Restore will remove that download and maybe your games will work. If not you can easily undo System Restore and return to the present.

As far as virus and games there is some information here.

While your there you may as well check out their gaming board for help too.

How far back will the system restore let me go?
