Please tell me how to extract and install the original IFSMGR.VXD from the Windows 98SE installation CD. An updated version of this file has disabled one of my peripherals.

Many thanks.

First try an SFC at the run command. Click on the button next to "Extract one file from installation disk" and then type in the file you need extracted. You will need your CDROM handy (\Win98) or know where the .cab files are on your system. This will extract the original installation version of that file. James Collins

James is exactly right.

But I'm wondering WHY you want the original. There is an updated version (4.1.0.2225) for Win98 SE which corrected some problems. Go to Start>Run, and type qfecheck and see if the update is installed. If not, I'd suggest you check Windows Update for Q256015 update.
