Hello, I've searched through the forums but really haven't found anything concrete enough to put me in the right direction.
I have a hospital client coming off a Novell Btrieve system. I am pretty sure they have DDF's on their box as the vendor has them allowed to create their own reports and files as needed.
My question though is how is Btrieve used? Any sites to proved a few screen prints or is there a shareware version for windows that I can play around with so I am better prepared before I go on site?
I will be needing to extract their data down to either a comma delimited or fixed ASCII file as I will be converting these over to our system that runs on a I series box (AS400)
And the vendor is ofcourse a hospital vendor. The client doesn't want to really pay the ungodly amount for their vendor to extract it for them.
Can anyone give some suggestions on how to operate this? Or at least provide a detailed walkthrough of just a single simple file.
I'm not sure how the data dictonaries are laid out in Btrieve (as I have used only Unix and AS400's) but if the file is:
filename patdemo (patient demographics)
Pname 25 alpha desc: patient name
paddr1 25 alpha desc: address 1
paddr2 25 alpha desc: address 2
pctyst 25 alpha desc: city/state
pzip9 9 alpha desc: zip code
medrec# 11 numeric desc: medical record number
How would I pull something like this down into a comma delimited file, then exported over to a PC or laptop? I'm not certain the client uses TCP/IP, and if such an older version of Novell, I guess netware or what, IPX? Not keen on networking.
But any help would be greatly appreciated.
