I am setting up this Dell PowerEdge 2850 which has 6 G of RAM (6 1Gb DIMMS). Using the server assitant, I got the option to extend the RAM beyong 4G. This option was supposed to be checked only if I had more than 4G of RAM. For other reasons I could not complete the OS setup that way.

This time I am going to boot into 2003 Ent CD and will use Windows setup. How do I check the option in Windows setup to extend the RAM beyond 4G. How will it matter if I dont do that.

Please advice.
Thanks.

Please keep in mind that no matter what you do, unless you use 64 bit edition of windows, it cannot truly ever use more than 4GB of RAM.

djtech2k,
Thanks for the advice. I will remember that.
Do you have any links in MS that explains it in a bit more detail.
Referring to the link,
In the table,
Operating system Maximum memory support with PAE

What does this table really convey then ??
Thanks.
