when in manager and trying to stop and start the pop3 and smtp virtual servers the manager freezes on the restart.

Telent on port 25 to external server works fine
machine is dns server this is working fine

Internet Explorer not working on server. when going into properties ok until hit the connection tab then it freezes.

Other internet services like AV updates also not working on server.

Internet working fine for all other machines

This looks like a deeper windows issue but i am looking for insperation

Before we go to deep into windows issues. You may have spy/ad ware on your machine. Spybot / Lavasoft's Adaware, or whatever you prefer might be a good place to start. I find this to be quite common on home machines. Sometimes best to start with the simple things.

Norton's updater relies on (for a lack of a better term) a working Internet Explorer. If you IE goes down so does your updater. There are settings in IE that Norton uses for it's updater interface (I forget which ones). Why the close integration or the inability to have it use another browsers settings is beyond me.

Opps forgot to mention. This frezzing can occur if your smtp server is relaying spam/other unwanted messages and therefore flooding your port 25 which make starting and stopping this service a pain in the butt.
