I just put together a new system (ECS P4M800PRO-M MB, Pentium 805 CPU, 512MB Memory) and installed Win98SE. When I boot with my external hard drive connected and turned on, it appears both as the D: drive (just as a second IDE drive would), and as the last drive. I tried marking the drive as Removable, but that didn't make a difference: it still appears as "SEA_DISK (D
" and "Removable Disk (S
."
I checked the BIOS at bootup to see if the drive was being improperly detected, but it wasn't. The problem seems to be in Windows.
My current computer, also running Win98SE, has never had this problem. The only evident difference is that the new computer has onboard USB 2 and my old computer has an add-on USB 2 card.
Anybody have any idea what's going on, and what I can do about it?
