I want to get a external hard drive to back up on with my workstations at home. I have been pricing some over the internet and they all connect through USB. Are there any external hard drives that have NIC's already built in to them or do I need to figure something out myself? I want the external hard drive to be connected to the network rather than to a single computer on the network. I would appreciate some ideas if anyone has some.
Thanks

I have the 250Gb LaCie Etherdisk Mini which works via USB or directly over the network. It was something like £170 inc. UK VAT for the 250Gb, maybe less.

While it is a little slow over the network it works very well and doesn't need a client to be installed on the PC.

It is formatted as FAT32 so max. individual file size is 2Gb. You can reformat so it can do bigger single files but you then lose the capability of using it via USB. Which isn't any great loss of course.

Most like the Linksys etc. need a client which kind of defeats the purpose of a NAS device to my mind. The LaCie doesn't.
