External Database Manipulation

I know you can do a TNB dump and manipulate the database extrenally, upload it to the drive, and do a sysload to bring the system up on a new batabase. How is this done exactly? What filename do you use? Commands? Can it be done for the DGT, RLB, and CDP (DSC, TSC, LSC) also?

What pitfalls do you need to look for when manipulating the database externally (i.e. need dual CR's or eliminate dual Cr's here and there, etc)?

the way i do it is to down load it to a txt, open it with an excell the write a script to put it back in. using word to do a merge between word and excel, saving as a txt then use ascept editor to complie and save as a was file. and yes if you want you can use a script to add rdb cdb etc. if you are moving data from the same platform, you can use ld 143 to just move the data base, much faster and very clean. when i have moved data from a rolm mitel etc, i use the first method or moving data from an older platform sl1..

Could you expound on that a bit? I will be moving data between 61C's (well, 1000M,s one on 3.0 the other on 4.0). I will cut and paste the requisite TN data from my 11C. Can I read the file from a disk instead of uploading it? What should the filename be?

no you can't cut and paste cisco style, the tn's in a 61 and an 11 don't match. even from one 61 to another 61, cut and paste is not an option.. in the command mode, the switch gives you a prompt, when that finished printing the response has to be transmited.. when you print a tnb the prompt and the response print. that's why i use scripts, with a line, waitfor "REQ: " transmit " new^M" when you do a print you never see req: you do see "type " and need to transmit the phone type... i can post a short script that puts a phone in but unless you have someone that knows the 11 very well, it almost impossible to write a 10,000 plus line script to move a database from one switch to another. i will help anyway i can but realize that we have techs with years on this software that still type a new switch in one line at a time..

Sure, I'd appreciate the script if you would post it. I have never compared the input/output of the 11C as opposed to the 61C, so I find that interesting.

This is going to be fun, as I'm going to move part of the population from one 61 to another new one, add the 11C's population to the new one, then move the 11C to another building presently served by a mini-remote off the first 61, which means I move that part of the population off the original 61 onto the 11C. I have already added one 11C to the campus, and intend to add another (it's just as cost effective as using a channel bank, with the added bonus of prcatically infinite flexibility).

Most of these are life dependent lines (emergency phones, elevator phones, etc.) so I will be using PRI's, but I will be backing them up with IP trunking across the WAN, eliminating the failure prone copper links.
