I am using CR XI and I have a simple report with 3 linked subreports. The report works fine when I preview in crystal but when I try to export it to excel (data only) the resulting spreadsheet puts the data on 4 lines (the normal data on 1 line and each of the fields from the sub-reports on a seperate line).
All of the header fields which are also being exported are shown on one line, it is just the data which is being split.
My data is held in the details section and I have checked that the data field widths are the same as the heading field widths.
I am using the 'Column width based on objects in the details section' option but this doesn't make any difference.

What am I doing wrong?

Attach all fields and subreports to both vertical and horizontal gridlines. Then select the subs and the fields->format field->make same size: height. Resize the detail section to minimize the height. Then try exporting.

I've attached vertical and horizontal gridlines to all of the fields (page header and detail objects). The normal objects now have little red marks on their corners (i suppose to show that they are attached) but the subreports don't. I've gone into the subreports and attached gridlines to them there but the red marks still don't show on the main report.

When I export this I still get the same result.

It is hard to get the sub attached to the gridlines, but it is possible--keep trying until you see the sub move with the gridline. The fields within the sub are irrelevant to this process.

Are the subs in the same section to begin with? Did you resize the height of all section objects using make same size?

I've got the sub-reports attached (they grow and shrink when I move the gridlines) but they still don't have any red marks around them.
All the subs are in the detail section as are all my other fields except the report and page headers and I've resized all the objects using make same size.

Still getting the same result....

Thanks for your help so far.

The subs don't have to have the red marks.

Can you confirm that the subreports are showing only one row and that all other sections within the subs are suppressed?

Other than that the only thing I would try is to eliminate any white space between gridlines, so that each of two objects is attached to the same vertical gridline.

Also try exporting in the other Excel option--not data only. I sometimes have better luck with that.
