I can't get the groups to export along with the address book. The contacts appear when I import to a new machine but not groups or distribution lists. Can this be done, or does anyone know the correct files to grab?

My goal here is to take the contact list from one machine with Win98 / Outlook 2K, and move it to a new machine running Win2K / Outlook 2K.

Thanks Kids!

If you take the entire pst file you shouldn't have a problem. Unless....Are you wanting to add just the contacts from one computer to another, or are you starting new with Outlook on the 2nd computer and just need the all of the Outlook data transferred over?

If you want just contacts and their info and not all the mail/calender, then you could export your info into a .csv file and import that into the new pc

My first try was with the .csv, and the groups didn't come along as Dawn said. I just tried moving the .pst but the new computer said that Personal folder use was not enabled. Anyone know what this means?

Thanks

where did you move the .pst file? Did you move it to the folder and replace the existing .pst file? (just to be on the safe side, rename the .pst file in the destination computer so that you can use it again if you have to.)

Easiest way to do this.

Make sure your file folder option has show hidden files. Can't remem if 98 hides it or not so betteroff playing it safe.

do a search for a file named outlook.pst Coppy this file to your new machine. my documents directory is easiest. Now go into outlook do an import of a pst file and choose the outlook.pst file as the one to import from and import contacts.

Hint if you want to just replace pst files you can then get everything. do step 1 to find where win2k hides the pst for the partcular user name. it is in the documents and settings\{USERNAME}\local settings\application data\microsoft\outlook !!!hidden!!!folder I think on a 2k box for another shortcut or just search the you would have to explore and dwell down to it anyways based on search results

Actually I missed something first time around. What is the situation that you are moving from and to. is an exchange server anywhere in the picture? sounds like maybe you are moving onto a machine that has exchange setup and a very secure admin policy?

Give more info on the two setups please.
