I made a video only around 2:30, black and white and around 720x??? resolution at AVI and it is a whaping 550 mb, anyone help me out?> i need it to be a LOT smaller, heck, its only 2 min 30 sec!

that's about right; for uncompressed or DV avi.

Depending on how good of a quality you want vs size, you'll have to play around with yoru codecs and output settings.

Try using DIVX.

How can i get the option to export using the divx compressor?

right now i only have Microsoft NTSC and PAL compressors and i dont know how to get new ones.

Well, you've probably got lots of codecs to try out. Different codecs are better for different types of video, so experiment with your export settings and see what you get.

Sometimes you can find codecs by simply searching
I often see very satisfactory results by making a Quicktime using the Sorenson compressor.

If you have a more up-to-date version of Premiere, you can try the Export-to-Web option, which I suspect will give you much smaller files.

Also, what is this video going to be used for? put to VHS? DVD?

DVD your files are going to be huge.
VHS? You can get away with using DIVX for quality and small file sizes.

and I also suggest that before you do anything, you read up on video codecs; and making digital video altogether ( also reading your Premiered Manual that came with your software is a big help)

codecs:

I cheat and drop my files into MovieMaker and create a wmv file for playback on the PC...got a 700mb avi down to about 80mb wmv.
