How does one export an excel file to a comma delimited text file?

 
file > Save As > choose file type as CSV from the DropDownListBox
 
What if you have commas in a cell?

Then I'd suggest using tab separated instead.

Hi, Phil

If a cell contains commas then Excel will automatically enclose the contents in double quotes.

This convention is however not universally supported, in particular many Unix based programs don't seem to handle it properly and will still see the embedded and misalign fields as a result.

OK, thanks, Jock. I get the same behavior exporting query results from SQL Server Query Analyzer.
