How do i achieve this action.
I have a table on the 8i database and when i export it and try to import onto the oracle 7.3.4 database i get error's.

How can i achieve this action, is there any export parameters i use to then allow me to import in again on a different db?

cheers

in your 8i database, execute catexp7.sql then run export of your tables but whith exp of your oracle 7.3.4

Smac, To add to MMerni's comment (and to reduce your fears of exp/imp between dissimilar Oracle database versions):

1) By design, Oracle allows you to import to a newer database version without errors.

2) Since imp/exp structures are not reverse-compatible in Oracle, if you wish to import into an older database version, you must execute the original export from the newer database using the older-database-version's export (exp) binaries. To cause this to occur, a) log into the machine with the older database (ensuring that my ORACLE_HOME points to the old version if there are multiple Oracle versions on that machine), b) ensure that my tnsnames.ora on the old machine also points to the newer database/instance, and c) execute the export: exp <user_on_newer_db>/<password>@<newer_db_servicename> d) import the results into the older db using the older db's import binaries. (Note: if the export or import throw compatibility/structural errors, that is when you need to run the proper catexp.sql script against the newer db; but be sure to run catexp.sql for the new database on the new database once you are done.)

I hope this make sense.

Dave
