Everytime I boot up or restart a WINNT Workstaion, the explorer window opens in c:/winnt/system32, why is this happening?

I winnt workstation4.0 service pack 5.

Hello knowidea,

Here are a couple of places to look for :
-Check the startup group of your start menu... maybe you dropped a shortcut there by mistake.
-check your profile under %systemdrive%\winnt\profiles\%username%... see if there is anything there refering to this
-in the same way, check in the "all users" and "default user" profiles and look for any shortcuts that might launch this explorer window.

If you find nothing there, please post again and let me know for how long this has been happening.
Did this start after the installation of a new application ? S. Gagner

This is usually when a shortcut that runs at startup isn't setup correctly or pointing to a missing program.

Found this on the net..

Start the Registry Editor (regedit.exe).
Open this registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Verify that all the values in these keys do not contain any incorrect, incomplete, or null entries (such as "").
If the (Default) Name variable has a value of "" (an empty string), delete the Name variable. After the deletion, the value for (Default) should be "(value not set)".

Good Luck.. B-) A+ MCP
