Hi all

im using windows xp pro sp2 and get the following error message

explorer failed to initialize properly (0xc00000005)

i can get to the logon screen, select a user to logon to and then get the above message. It happens in both safe mode and a full boot, which means i cant get to a desktop, which makes life rather hard.

The machine did have the Antivirus gold virus but i have removed all the files connected with that virus. or at least i think so. I followed the instructions listed at the link below

I am using bart PE to get to a version of the desktop so some of the instructions will not work, but i removed all the files and registry entries listed.

There is no sign of the virus on the machine but i still get the error.

any ideas anyone?

cheers dutch6

Did you try to repair the OS install as your antivirus should have delete mandatory dlls or exes that were infected ?

Water is not bad as long as it remains outside human body ;-)

I will try a repair in stall of xp next. i think i have tried everything else i can think of, but if anyone else knew of something i could try without a install id rather try that.

cheers

The most common problem for this ERROR.. it refers to a memory exception error... very easy to duplicate if you have any memory hog games... your playing... found the easiest way to stop this error... is after playing your game I use "System Mechanic" to RECOVER RAM an DEFRAG RAM..after i stop gaming. any program which will do the same should stop this ERROR.

thanks for the reply s0121

unfortunatley this ram fragmentation is not the problem here.

i cant logon to any user account at startup. there is only mcafee security suite, and office install. no games.

antivirus gold virus has caused it but even though i believe i've got rid of it, there must be something hangng around, or its corrupted some system files.

i have tried replacing the explorer files to no joy. a repair install is the order of the day.

cheers

If you have system file corruption. the appropiate command to fix that is start -> run -> cmd -> type sfc /scannow
