Hello,
I'm having a problem with explorer.exe, it will not start at all, it does not generate an error message it just looks like it trys to start for split second the startbar flashes and thats it. (Does the same on startup or if I try to start it manually via Task manager)
I recently uninstalled GeoShell but I went through the registry manually to make sure my shell was pointing to explorer.exe and that all GeoShell reg keys were removed.
I can run pretty much any program via the Task manager, except IE and Explore.exe, I tried re-installing SP4 but that did not help.
My explorer.exe file is 237kb (Size on disk: 240kb) I scanned explorer.exe with nortonAV by itself and ran a full system scan, but did not find anything.
Found some data miners with Spybot, Adaware and HijackThis and cleaned those. Thats all I was able to find with the AntiVirus/AntiSpyware that I have. (Norton AV Pro 2003, Ad-awareSE, Spybot and HijackThis are what I use). Anyway I think the system is clean.
Recently I had a problem while installing 3DsMax5.0, during install I got a message saying some system files were over written and I needed to install my SP-4 disk. And it caused Winlogon.exe to use a crazy amount of system resources (kept jumping between 0-50), re-applying SP-4 Fixed that, and the system has ran fine since then, that was about 5 days ago.
The 3DStuido Max Disks I used to install are originals from Discreet, not downloaded or copied CD-Rs, I have done about 5 installs with those on Win2k since I got 5.0 and that was the first time I had trouble.
