Okay, SpyBot helped me with yesterdays problem and I was back running; for a few hours. I was updating my software to get it back to where I had started. I really thoguht IE6 was my original problem so I had loaded 4.0 and was downloading an upgrade to 5.5. During the install, the machine froze up and I had to reboot. Now as Windows begins to start, I get just beyond the start-up screen and the error pops up - "Explorer Error The program performed an illegal operation, etc" In the detail section it refers to Explorer executing an illegal instruction at Browseui.dll at 0177:7116eeed. I'm stuck with just an image of my wallpaper.

Any thoughts or should I just drop it off the deck?

Did you clean install 98? (puzzled - you loaded 4.0 - presume IE4 - but 98FE comes with 4, so by loading 4 did you mean removing later versions? Just wondering if your IE is basically corrupted).
