explore.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows.

I'm running W2000 swedish on a dell 8100 1,4GHz. The system has been running smoothly for a longer period.
When I try to open the Control panel I get this error after about 15 lines have been displayed in the control panel window
("Explore.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program").
Then I'm forced by the system to abend and close the control panel window.
I have looked at Q255758 in MS knowledge database but I don't have any Cleansweep installed that could be removed nor can I find the file Apitrap.dll which is mentioned there.

Dear bcastner,
thank you for very quick response. I have worked through all steps on the web site you point at in your answer (FAQ608-4650), i.e. I have performed a scan 3 times with 3 different scanwares and also been running the other programs but the error still comes back. I suppose you noticed that my problem is when I open the control panel and not when I start IE for internet surfing.
