Explanation of custom event functionality in BOXIR2

Is it necessary to repeatedly trigger a custom event to get all reports to run? We have approximately 260 reports scheduled using a custom event. When we trigger the event it only runs a few of the reports and then we have to trigger again and it runs a few more reports? Is this typical? Doesn't seem accurate. Can anyone provide information regarding custom events?
