I am currently using BE 8.6 and need need to upgrade to 10.0. First of all, any feedback on experience with 10.0?

Second, one of our guys came across a software that I am not familiar with and was wondering if anyone has any feedback (Good or Bad). The software is Ibac Data Protection software and is from
They claim to backup in native format without the use of agents - even for SQL and Exchange. ???

Thanks,
jwill

Doubt it..

Just by having a quick read..

Agent free backup - Ibac does not require any agents to be installed on the remote servers to be backed up.

Database and Open file backup - Unlike other backup software where multiple agents are required to backup an entire system (example - SQL and Exchange), Ibac only requires the optional Open Volume Snapshot license to backup both databases and open files.

Wonder how it truncates Exchange logs after the full backup has completed..

Justin,

I posed the question to one of their engineers - answer -

Exchange has a setting where the logs get truncated or deleted if you please after x number of days that you specify

They handle backing up Exchange by using their open file option OVS. I think it takes a point in time and then backs that up as a virtual drive.

Any experience with Backup Exec 10.0?

You know, I thought I knew Exchange pretty well - I have never seen the option to where transaction logs get truncated after x number of days.

I hope he was talking about the message tracking logs.

Bit of experience with 10 - again it works alot different in some ways to Ibac - the option of point in time backup to a virtual drive can be done with 10 using VSS technology and Off host backups.
