Hi:
We distribute our (VFP7) exe to hundreds of customers per year. We are getting an increasing number of reports about the program running slow as death on some XP boxes. I think they're all XP Pro, but I can't be 100% sure. Some are networked but running of the local hard drive, some are not networked, some are running off the network.

We do extensive pre-release testing on clean installs of all OS's from W95 up to XP. We have never seen the behavior in-house. The only case we were able to witness and solve involved a non-administrator trying to run the exe after installation by an administrator.

Likely candidates seem to be anti-virus software, some kind of security protocols, some sort of network configuration? Any ideas or experience muchly welcome.

TIA,

Virus checkers may be your big problem. See - "PRB: VFP Executable File Is Slow to Access Tables On Server" - for one situation. The general case is any virus checker that notices a change in .DBF, .CDX or .FPT files and is constanly checking for virus signatures - you need to make sure these file types are excluded from any "real-time" checking.
