I have a client thats been running a Time Clock program for over 3 years now. Starting last week, the antivirus program started identifying the time clock .exe as a virus and quarantines it. Now when you click on the exe it reboots the computer. I have reinstalled the program but to no avail. I have also uninstalled the antivirus. Still nada! Also uncheck the restart on system failure. Any Ideas!!

Thanks in advance

1. Check hard drive with manufacturer's utility
2. Check memory
Both tests can be found on the ultimate boot CD
(not the yellow box - half way down the page for D/L links)

3. Remove your time application (uninstall) and anti-virus software.
Reboot computer

4. Install CCleaner - clean out temp files only

5. Install, update and run MalwareByte's anti-malware and run a full scan. Remove everything found.
REBOOT

6. CCLEANER - clean registry - backup changes before fixing found problems. Run three times to be sure (save backup each time.)

7. Reboot computer

8. Reinstall application

Tell us what happens. Don't skip any steps. Just do it to humor me with items 1 and 2 if you don't think there's anything wrong.

I will give it a try and let you know shortly, I did for get to mention that this is happening on 3 different computers.

Thanks for the reply

Same result.

I uninstalled the programs. Ran ccleaner. The registry part removed files left over after install, looked promising but after reinstalling, I am getting the same result.

The Drive Utility reported no errors on the drive.

After the computer rebooted it stated that the computer had just recoverd from a serious error, yadda yadda and wants to send it to Microsoft. But here are the details.

BCCode : 10000050 BCP1 : F40E7843 BCP2 : 00000008 BCP3 : F40E7843

BCP4 : 00000002 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 3_0 Product : 256_1

Did you run the memory tests??? Most of the time when I have seen crashing executables and virus/malware was NOT present, it has been a memory issue.

If you don't want to run the memory test (for whatever the reason), pull half the memory out.

The client had 3 different Antivirus programs,AVG,Norton were the ones that quarantined. I have actually uninstall the Antivirus programs all together and reinstalled the Timeclock, still no luck.

Download and run the Norton Removal Tool to uninstall your Norton product

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right-click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking. Try it first by not checking either box (this will run it in a Read-only mode) to see if it flags any hard drive or file problems. If it does, restart it by ticking both boxes, and rerun it to allow it to attempt to fix any found problems.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.

The client had 3 different Antivirus programs,AVG,Norton
OMG... two or more antiviral programs tend to interfere with each other to a point of no return on some systems...

Have him stick with one solution, preferrable to AVG over Norton (hate that muck, has caused TOO many grieves in the past)...

and once an AV has tagged a file as a VIRUS and Quarantined it, it gets marked and is hindered from EXECUTING, whether the AV is installed or not...
