Does anyone know if it is possible to set or return the exclusive mode of a loaded database?

This might be a long shot.

If you are asking if there is some hidden undocumented Access function, or relatively obscure Window internal API to do this, I’ve never been able to find it. The boys at Richmond categorically deny the existence of any such function.

Given that, there are certain things we do know. A database opened exclusive does not generate an ldb file. A shared database, even with only one user will open an ldb file in the directory having the mdb. You can check to see if there is an ldb to determine if the mdb is or is not exclusive.

And then, thinks I, why would he even care? Well, perhaps he wants exclusive rights to do something he can’t do if the database is opened by anyone else but him. If I’m howling in the wind, ignore the post. If this is what you need, I’ve done it and will be happy to share the information.

This might work.

I have a database that prevents users from using the shift bypass and hides the MS Access window. I want a normal, everyday user to just see my forms. I want an administrative user to see the MS Access window, the database window, etc. in order to edit objects. However, I don't need an admin attempting to change tables, queries, etc. while another user is unknowingly doing his thing. Thus, I need to know if the admin is in exclusive mode.

I am just doing what I can to make a "bullet proof" database application.

By the way... I am not using any of Access's security. I have made my own security. I have found the Access's security is just plain annoying in Windows NT.

Thanks and God Bless!
