Exchange System Objects container missing in AD

I have a customer who deleted the System Mailbox account (because it has a red X on it-thinking it was not needed).

Now he gets errors in the Event log about System Mailbox missing and how Exchange cannot send messages to it. There are articles about recreating the system mailbox, but the Exchange System Objects container is no longer listed in AD with advanced features displayed!!

Now, he swears he did not delete this (in fact, I don't think you can delete a container unless you use ADSIedit or LDP). He cannot recreate a System Mailbox without a container to put it in. I have walked him through checking in ADSI to look for the container, to no avail. He does not have a very recent backup of AD, so restoring is probably not a good option. I am hesitant to have him try to reinstall/repair Exchange, as it can create more problems. I am wondering if there are more underlying problems with this situation.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

This problem may be related to thread181-27567. I don't have the answer. Does the clients server have a problem with its M logical drive?

I am hoping with a few clues or someone who knows something ...we can solve this problem for at least 3 of us.

Good Luck and please share if you get your answer.

Are you sure that is the correct thread?

Exchange seems to be functioning normally other than the few errors in Event about system mailbox being inaccessible.

I did find this article in MS site somewhat helpful, but not sure if it will cause more harm.

Let me know what you think.
